After witnessing most of his family being killed in the violence that followed the India-Pakistan Partition, he lived with his sister. A short while in a refugee camp in Purana Quila followed by some time at a resettlement colony in Shadara, Delhi, led to Milkha realizing he was confused by life. Disillusioned by life, he considered becoming a dacoit but applied for the Indian Army under his brother’s persuasion. Four attempts later, he got in. It was during his posting at Secundrabad that he was introduced to athletics, and discovered his life’s true calling. A gold medal at the commonwealth games, and several Olympic games later, Milkha Singh was the stuff of legend. The Race of My Life is the story of an orphan who has been running all his life, and the face of Indian Sports for nearly forty years. | 4349 |
